The Brazilian Navy launched, on July, 10th, 2019, the third prototype of MANSUP – Brazilian Anti-Ship Surface-to-Surface Missile, targeting the hull of the former “Trident” Deep-Sea Tugboat. The launch was accomplished by “Independência” Frigate and proved that all subsystems performed well and behaved harmoniously.

The results confirmed the evolution of the project and the correctness of the improvements made after the first tests, which took place in November 2018 and March 2019, from “Barroso” Corvette and “Independência” Frigate, respectively. In this third launch, additional tests were carried out, which data were recorded by the national telemetry head installed in the missile and telemetry receiver stations installed in the ships participating in the operation. The data obtained will be used as input to further improve the component subsystems. The event took place in the maritime area between Rio de Janeiro-RJ and Cabo Frio-RJ.

Three ships of the Brazilian Squadron were employed, the Multipurpose Amphibious Ship (NAM) Bahia, the “Constitution” Frigate, and the launcher ship, the “Independência” Frigate. The operation was also supported by the “Apa” Oceanic Patrol Ship and the “Purus” Oceanic Support Ship of the 1st Naval District Command, by the Ecureuil (UH-12), SuperCougar (UH-15), Seahawk (SH-16) and Lynx (AH-11A) helicopters from the Air-Navy Force Command, and a P3AM aircraft from the Brazilian Air Force, as well as the Combat Divers Detachment.
